hello ladies, gentlemen, and everyone else and welcome to day 11 of milkas' expression corner !! today's topic is a rather short one that i randomly came across and felt inspired to write about.
"Boi" is a term with multiple context-dependent meanings, though in LGBTQIA+ contexts it usually means a young and masculine queer woman of color. as such, it is a culture-specific identity.
it can be pronounced as "boy-ee" or "bou-oy", though some also pronounce it the same as the word "boy". the term stems from black communities, more specifically AAVE, though it has been adopted by the LGBTQIA+ community.
some alternative definitions of the term include:
- a boyish lesbian
- a young trans man who is early into transition or used to identify as a butch woman
- a person who was assigned as female at birth, though they do not entirely identify as such
- a gender non-conforming person who may identify with a number of LGBTQIA+ labels
the term also has a few meanings outside of the aforementioned, such as in meme culture - "Here come dat boi!"
